Helping Merino Growers meet RWS

Approach to RWS.

MyOrigins supports responsible animal welfare and landscape management by leveraging higher standards for the wool industry, namely the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS). Our goal is to lift grower management standards and make Australian wool competitive in the current market place which increasingly demands verifiable credentials.

The RWS is our starting point as we work to harmonise all processing, brand and industry standards for a streamlined approach to benefit our members. We focus on demonstrating how we manage our day-to-day farm operations across these multiple standards, rather than any one standard.

Culture of collaboration.

Instead of growers competing against each other, we realise that our strength is how we share knowledge and collaborate together. Our streamlined approach to the RWS is just one example. Encouraging external grower input and backed by Blockchain technology advancements such as those provided in our platform, helps members of the Australian Ethical Merino Growers Co-Op manage their data,  acquire new knowledge and develop streamlined processes for reporting.

What is the intent behind the RWS?

The RWS seeks to:

  • Recognise best practices of farmers;
  • Ensure that wool comes from farms with a progressive approach to managing their land, and from sheep that have been treated responsibly;
  • Provide a robust chain of custody system from farm to final product so that consumers are confident that the wool in the products they choose is truly RWS; and
  • Create a global industry benchmark that will drive improvements in animal care and land management where needed.
